"The Train of His Robe"
Isaiah 6:1 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on the throne, high and exalted, and the train of His robe filled the temple.”
Close your eyes for a moment. Clear your head from the outward distractions of life. Quiet your heart now from any inward commotion and let the Lord take you up to the summit of this glorious vision the prophet Isaiah describes here in this first scene of this verse.
Right after the death (from leprosy) of this beloved king of Judah, we need to remember that Isaiah was most likely shook up from the deep place that grief will often drive us. Yet, we find the Lord in all His kindness lifts Isaiah’s spirit with a glimpse into the eternal, into the heavenly realm, with a prophetic vision of Christ (about 700 years before the birth of Jesus) enthroned in all His authority and glory.
And don’t we need this vision sometimes - an eternal perspective, a heavenly vision? “Eyes” that understand the fullness of the Godhead (the Trinity) dwells in a real temple in heaven as well as the whole universe and beyond? And don’t we also need to trust in the Sovereignty of God—even in “our situation?”
How easily we get confused; we don’t like not having answers. At times we may ask where is God in our pain, grief, and anxiety. Isaiah saw the LORD, Adonai (Jesus) sitting on His throne high and exulted- fully in control. In your need, like Isaiah, envision your Lord at the right hand of His Father in full authority, ruling and judging over all creation, knowing He is in command over your life too. Sometimes we have to come to the end of our control, end of ourselves and even maybe have to see the end of a relationship in order to realize our desperate need is really to truly “see” the Lord and allow His filling to engulf us.
Isaiah then continues with this prophetic vision and speaks of how the train of His robe filled the temple. He sees the resurrected Jesus, our King, Lord, and High Priest wearing His robe of righteousness. It is the skirt or hem of this robe that continues to fill the entire temple completely with His perfection, His glory.
As with the woman in the New Testament (the one who had blood issues), in faith she believed and touched the hem of Jesus' garment for her own healing. What situation do you have for which you need to believe Christ?
Can you, will you, allow the image of the train of His robe amply cascading and fluently reaching into every room of the hospital ward or home for the aging, with His peace and healing? Let that image be engraved in your mind as you think of your loved one or yourself in one of those places. Trust that He protectively covers our military forces with the mantle of His cloak. In faith, reach out and touch the hem of His garment to mend your broken relationship. Know He is able to encompass the lonely cavern of your heart and exchange it with the filling of Himself until you swell with an overflow of His glory. Maybe it’s your work place or your community that needs a healing touch from Christ. Will you believe Him for it?
Lord, in gratitude, and with a humble heart, we open the bare and exposed spaces of our heart and soul, as well as the nook and crannies we have withheld from you. We do this in order to grant you entry into our very being. We know You can wholly fill the temple of heaven with Your glory and You wait to fill each of our humble hearts with the same glory. We welcome You in. And we believe.
I Call on You, My Lord
Teach me Oh Lord, to call upon Your name
when the silent ache presses down
into the hollow place
within the walls of my heart.
I shall pray that these somber waves roll across
this ‘cavern of need’
and will not tarry here any more.
For You lay hold of this vacuum of lost dreams
and it is Your love that fills and saturates
the empty places with a new hope.
Praise Your Holy name my Lord God,
Who makes all things new again.
May it be our desire that we be women who live in the present and are aware of the world around us. May we take notice of the blessings God gifts to each of us, and always long to hear His whispers. Shall we also pray with a more purposeful focus on God’s will? And as we stay connected in our relationship with Christ, we will become more thankful followers. Let us commit to doing this together! Close your eyes…Open your heart, let God’s Spirit empower you today.
