"Seasons We Just Don’t Understand"

woman spinning

As I was sitting at my table during our last women’s retreat, the verse from Ecclesiastes 3:11 popped into my mind. “Everything is appropriate (or beautiful) in its own time. He has set eternity in their hearts; even so, man cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” God is in control and fashions and governs the universe. With Him there is harmony and order with how things work together for good.

Boy, did I have a giggle that day as my mind wandered off thinking about the “seasons” that a woman’s body and emotions have to go through in a life time. At my table alone, we had half the younger gals missing their babies and trying to hold their tears inside. The other half of us were stripping off our sweaters attempting to cool down our body temperatures because of the hot flashes we were experiencing. Ohhhhh, the seasons of life we women have to battle through!!

Here we all were, gathered together under one roof, each one “hearing the call of eternity” set within our hearts. We had come to join in fellowship to seek more of God and to worship Christ in unity. It was a beautiful thing, and well pleasing to the Lord.

BUT, with the last part of that verse… man cannot see the whole scope of God’s work, cannot understand all that He is accomplishing. I have had a few issues lately with God and the verbiage ‘whole scope’ of things. The acceleration of gravity is pulling at my own body and the law of thermodynamics (entropy) is in full force. My ‘tent’, as Paul described it, reminds me that I must face that I am no longer the young lady I once was. My conversation with God sounds like this: “Really God, like wirery grey hair, stiff bones, floppy skin, and the return of acne isn’t enough…what’s up with facial hair? Now I realize you have counted every hair on our heads…but are you just getting bored with that, and thought it would be fun to add hair to the chin? Really God… really did you have to? True that we can’t understand the whole scope of Your ways, especially when it comes to chin hair at 50!! In what ways can chin hair be appropriate, fitting, or good for a woman to have?

Oh Heavenly Father, the outside of this old tent may point to a tattered, torn and tired covering, but my heartbeat is strong with desire for my heavenly home. One day I will lay this body down and You will receive my spirit and soul unto Yourself. Then and only then will You grant me my incorruptible body made for eternity. I long for that day… to see Your face and to reign and rule with Christ. But until that day, I press on in the seasons of womanhood, and am very thankful that I am armed with great tweezers and a vanity mirror that lights up. Amen.

Invitation To Dance

Encounter His grace and savor the gift of intimacy,
as He calls us to dance with Him
in a life adventure.
His grace unfolds and evolves as it thrives
and engages us in the rhythm
of His calling.
So arise to the Lord’s invitation to dance
in a sure extravagance, as the stirring of our spirits
hears and moves to the music of His heart.

May it be our desire that we be women who live in the present and are aware of the world around us. May we take notice of the blessings God gifts to each of us, and always long to hear His whispers. Shall we also pray with a more purposeful focus on God’s will? And as we stay connected in our relationship with Christ, we will become more thankful followers. Let us commit to doing this together! Close your eyes…Open your heart, let God’s Spirit empower you today.
