"Adjustment"

Cross and Chairs on a HillWho here today needs an adjustment? No, I am not talking about the wonderful work the chiropractor does for our bodies. I am talking about the wonderful work the Holy Spirit does as He moves within our spirit, by helping to adjust our thought process when it is incorrect.

2 Corinthians 10:5b "…bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ". In the Greek language, other words for thought are: understanding, perception, how one thinks or exercise the mind, disposition or feelings. So now go back to the verse and exchange each of those other words in place of ‘thought’. We have a job to do. We have some personal responsibility by taking our thoughts into captivity (like a prisoner of war), to the obedience (or compliance/submission) of Christ.

For instance, you know those negative thoughts we play over and over in our head like a darn broken record (or shall I say CD now a days)? What about those hurtful judgments we make about others and those dirty ideas that pop into our heads? We need to ask ourselves, "Where did that thought just come from? Is it true? Is this what God thinks of me or that other person? Or could it be what the 'Accuser of the Brethren' would want us to think?" If we read the book of Romans, we are told not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind so that we will be in line with God’s will. The battle is for our mind and that is why we must take our thoughts into obedience to the Lord.

Just ask yourself, "Is my thinking process lining up with God’s word?" How do you know if what you are thinking is lining up next to the truth of the scriptures unless you are daily reading His word? You just cannot rely on what your pastor gives you on those Sunday sermons, and you cannot rely on what you read a year ago "somewhere" in the Bible. We each must do our own study and be open to God’s Spirit to guide us, encourage us, lead us, and adjust us when necessary. My pastor always says to be like a good Berean who searched the scriptures for themselves (Acts 17).

Would you build your life and not choose to read the blueprint? Would you go on a trip and not look over the guidebook, or not read the map before the journey? You have heard it said that God has written each of us a love story by giving us the Bible. I wonder how He feels when we aren’t excited to read His love letter. For myself, I not only delight in reading the scriptures, I dearly need to!! I need to break the cycle of the broken record of negative thoughts. I need to hear the good news that God has a plan and hope for my future. And I need to keep my thoughts captive from the way the world is bombarding me with ungodly directions and thoughts. Satan knows he can try to undo the footing we have in Christ, but only if we let him get a foothold. So stay alert for the traps.

"Truth engages the citadel of the human heart and is not satisfied until it has conquered everything there." A.W. Tozer

May I strongly encourage you today, to ask the Lord to bring you a new longing, and fresh desire for His precious Word?

Within Your Presence

Oh Lord, send forth the very dew from heaven
to spill over and saturate my life with the refreshment
Your comforting presence provides.

Nourish this soul of mine
in the pure washing of Your Word and
with its anointing and power-
I will thrive within its life-giving strength.

Draw me so intimately close
that I may inhale Your very breath of life deeply
and passionately even to the secret places
of my open heart.

And through the silent whisper of Your voice
eternity speaks by putting a longing
in my soul to see Your face
and a desire to want to tarry there.

May it be our desire that we be women who live in the present and are aware of the world around us. May we take notice of the blessings God gifts to each of us, and always long to hear His whispers. Shall we also pray with a more purposeful focus on God’s will? And as we stay connected in our relationship with Christ, we will become more thankful followers. Let us commit to doing this together! Close your eyes…Open your heart, let God’s Spirit empower you today.
